On Tuesday evening, Democrats blocked a bill in the House of Representatives that would have required the Director of National Intelligence to disclose and declassify information about the origins of Wuhan’s COVID-19 pandemic, specifically the role played by the Wuhan State of Virology and it’s connection to the outbreak. The measure to declassify such critical information failed with a vote of 216-207, with Democrats voting to cover up the truth.
The COVID-19 Origin Act, a bill introduced by U.S. Senators Mike Braun (R-IN), and Josh Hawley (R-MO) was passed unanimously in May.
Representative Michael Burgess (R-TX) introduced the bill to the house floor alongside Representatives Darin LaHood (R-IL), and Brad Wenstrup (R-OH), highlighting the critical importance of the bill just shortly before Democrats shot it down on Tuesday night.
Wenstrup argued before the House that “the best disinfectant is sunlight,” and said that the bill meant to bring transparency about information gathered surrounding the Wuhan virology lab is of utmost importance because identifying the origins of COVID-19 may help prevent similar pandemics in the future.
“This bill is not controversial,” Wenstrup explained, noting that the bill passed the Senate with absolute unanimity, “not one senator objected.” He named senators Cruz and Paul as stalwart Republicans, and Warren and Sanders as devoted Democrats, claiming that “if those four… can get on board” then the House should be able to do the same.
FLOOR ALERT: @HouseDemocrats blocked @HouseGOP requests to declassify intelligence on the origins of COVID-19 & #ChineseCommunistParty's subsequent cover-up. The Senate UNANIMOUSLY passed the bill 5⃣5⃣ days ago…what is the Speaker afraid of? #HoldChinaAccountable pic.twitter.com/uOzbadQ41q

Representative LaHood went on to say before the assembly that the American public “deserve[s] a full accounting” on what investigators have learned about the origins of COVID-19.
I joined @RepBradWenstrup to request consideration of legislation to declassify the intelligence related to COVID-19 origins & hold China accountable – a bill the Senate unanimously passed. Americans deserve full transparency about COVID-19 origins, but Dems blocked our request. pic.twitter.com/4N2p57f7yd

When the bill was introduced to the Senate in April, Senator Hawley mentioned how people who suspected that the virus escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology were “branded as… conspiracy theorist[s],” “for over a year.” He added that it’s of global significance whether or not the pandemic was caused by “negligence” and noted how the Communist Party of China has gone to great lengths to “block a credible investigation.”
