Democrats have wasted zero time attempting to maximize their power over the United States, which should have been blatantly obvious to everyone last year when hearing all about the apparent need to destroy the Constitution, lambast law enforcement officers, and make free speech an apparently criminal enterprise.
While the Democrats have focused the most extensively on destroying free speech, they have now taken aim at another element of the First Amendment: freedom of the press. And they are not just talking about it, they are acting quite swiftly.
As evidenced by an utterly asinine letter send to various cable companies. The architects of the letter are Reps. Anna Eshoo and Jerry McNerney, both of whom, rather predictably, originate from California.
Apparently, these representatives want all conservative news channels, such as Fox News, Newsmax, and others, to be closed down. Due to their apparent “radicalization.”
“Some purported news outlets have long been misinformation rumor mills and conspiracy theory hotbeds that produce content that leads to real harm … Misinformation on TV has led to our current polluted information environment that radicalizes individuals to commit seditious acts and rejects public health best practices, among other issues in our public discourse.” [Source: The Blaze]
Wow. Just … wow.
First and foremost … “leads to real harm?” Seriously?! Exactly what would all the violent riots of last year (heck, this year) lead to? Sunshine and rainbows? Not to mention, the rather well-publicized fact that murder rates skyrocketed last year. If that isn’t “real harm,” what is?
In addition, “current polluted information environment?” What? Would that be the same “polluted” environment at fake news media, which has had to correct itself more than once when openly smearing others, including underage teenagers, all to make a buck and divide America?
The letter becomes even more absurd when reviewing other points, such as the fact that the Democrats had the gall to claim that the likes of Fox
“What moral or ethical principles (including those related to journalistic integrity, violence, medical information, and public health) do you apply in deciding which channels to carry or when to take adverse actions against a channel?”
[Source: The Blaze]
Interesting perspective. How exactly does CNN use “ethical principles” when celebrating BLM and Antifa while all but openly calling for an assault on law enforcement? Not to mention the fact that if any “adverse actions” should be taken against conservative news, then fake news media should face at least 10x these “adverse actions.”
Needless to say, Fox News was not pleased with this letter, and the network made its feelings very well known.
“As the most watched cable news channel throughout 2020, FOX News Media provided millions of Americans with in-depth reporting, breaking news coverage and clear opinion. For individual members of Congress to highlight political speech they do not like and demand cable distributors engage in viewpoint discrimination sets a terrible precedent.” [Source: The Blaze]
A terrible precedent indeed. Not to mention a total obliteration of the First Amendment, as noted by a GOP aide for the House and Energy and Commerce Committee, who describes the impact of the letter upon the First Amendment.
“The Majority is flirting with violating the First Amendment … Should the government be pressuring private industries to censor legally protected content and suppress the freedom of the press? No. If a free and independent press is still valued and mainstream in America, this censorship campaign should alarm every single journalist and member of the media.” [Source: The Blaze]
“Flirting” with the violation of the First Amendment? Might want to reconsider “flirting” and replace with “bulldozing towards.”
Aside from that generous word choice, the remainder of the statement is dead on accurate, and it is true that “every single journalist and member of the media” should fear such an insane suggestion from these “representatives.”
After all, the left will always eventually eat its own …
