An amendment to the 1964 Civil Rights Act cleared The House of Representatives on Thursday. The “Equality Act” H.R. 5 passed with a vote of 224-206.
The bills text includes language which would allow access to locker rooms, dressing rooms and restrooms which are “in accordance with the individual’s gender identity.”
Three Republicans cast favorable votes for the Equality Act. Rep. Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Rep. Katko (R-NY) and Rep. Reed (R-NY).
Democrats had attempted to pass the Equality Act in 2019 but were blocked by the Senate.
Joe Biden has promised to sign the bill should it pass the Senate this time.
