The Biden administration has some curiously strange policies. Kill jobs by cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline, then insist upon immediate COVID relief for Americans. And, apparently, permit millions of illegals to enter the United States … while also working as hard as possible to undermine the 2nd amendment.
In other words, Biden not only wants to change the fundamental demographics of the United States through his “amnesty” program, which does not exactly guarantee safety to Americans, while also robbing the same Americans of the right to self-defense.
Even worse, Biden’s (or Obama’s?) pick for Attorney General (AG), Merrick Garland, seems just fine with tinkering around with Biden’s gun control policies … or policies to slowly undo the 2nd amendment, with other amendments to follow.
Garland’s support of Biden’s pursuit of dismantling the 2nd amendment was particularly clear during a Senate Judiciary hearing, which took place on Monday night. During the hearing, Senator Mike Lee, a Republican hailing for Utah, directly asked Garland whether or not he supported banning certain firearms.
Curiously, Garland managed to answer without providing his preference. Instead, he cited Biden’s preferences.
“Well, as I’m sure you know, the president is a strong supporter of gun control and has been an advocate all his professional life on this question …
The role of the Justice Department is to advance the policy program of the administration as long as it is consistent with the law … Where there is room under the law for the president’s policies to be pursued, I think the president is entitled to pursue them.” [Source: Fox News]
Interesting. The Job of the AG is advancing policy programs … “as long as it is consistent with the law.” In other words, the policies should not be ones in which laws could possibly be violated, and the 2nd amendment seems rather firmly enshrined within the United States’ laws.
In addition, it would be nice to know “where there is room” under the 2nd amendment for Biden’s administration to continue pursuing its assault on the 2nd amendment.
Just consider the amendment itself:
“A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” [Source: Cornell Law School]
Seems fairly unambiguous to most people. After all, the 2nd amendment explicitly states that citizens’ rights to both keep and bear firearms “shall not be infringed” upon. Something suggests that the Framers of the Constitution would not be ecstatic to learn about the Biden administration’s joyful pursuit of destroying the 2nd amendment, especially since the real motivation for doing so may be found in another phrase: “a free State.”
Clearly, if the state is not “free,” then measures such as gun control, or confiscation of guns, or any other draconian gun policy, may become emerging, and it is clear that COVID has not exactly rendered the entire nation “free.”
Interesting, the 2nd amendment has been invoked more than once, including within 2008. In the case of District of Columbia v. Heller, which pertained to Washington D.C.’s extremely strict legislation, including the banning of carrying a gun.
However, the Supreme Court sided with the individual citizen, thereby upending Washington D.C.’s handgun ban.
That, however, was in 2008. Here we are in the modern times.
On the Biden campaign website itself, Biden’s positions on gun control are also explicitly clear, especially with the following statement:
“Joe Biden will enact legislation to once again ban assault weapons … will enact universal background check legislation, requiring a background check for all gun sales … and buy back the assault weapons and high-capacity magazines already in our communities.” [Source: Fox News]
“Buy back” assault weapons. Sounds a little too Kamala, as well as a little too unbelievable. After all, if criminals are intent on using guns for all the wrong reasons (perhaps the aforementioned illegal aliens), it is highly unlikely that they will participate in such a buyback program.
On the contrary, many Americans just might turn in their guns, thereby leaving themselves more vulnerable than ever to the nefarious intents of others.
In the midst of all of this, one cannot help but wonder when Biden will turn firm attention to the issues that afflict all Americans the most, from unemployment to healthcare and a number of other campaign promises.
