It appears that Democrats just cannot get over the fact that Trump rightfully received an acquittal for the most baseless impeachment in American history. Rather than moving forward (you know, with unity and all), some of them have instead decided to continue their dogged pursuit of Trump, however absurd it may be.
And this pursuit is fairly absurd, as it not only names Trump, but also Giuliani, the Proud Boys, and the Oath Keepers.
House Homeland Security Chief, Bennie Thompson, who is a Democrat from Maryland, has filed a lawsuit against all four aforementioned parties, apparently feeling galvanized after McConnell’s statements following Trump’s acquittal.
In this suit, Thompson makes the rather remarkable claim that both secretly arranged the breach on Capitol Hill, presumably to use “force” and “intimidation” to interfere with the electoral process.
“[Trump and Giuliani] conspired to incite an assembled crowd to march upon and enter the Capitol of the United States for the common purpose of disrupting, by the use of force, intimidation and threat, the approval by Congress of the count of votes cast by members of the Electoral College as required by Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution.” [Source: Town Hall]
Wow. Quite a few loaded accusations with rather scant evidence in that statement.
In addition, Thompson makes a number of other unsubstantiated claims, including commentary regarding “intent,” typically one of the most difficult things for an attorney to prove.
“The Defendants each intended to prevent, and ultimately delayed, members of Congress from discharging their duty commanded by the United States Constitution to approve the results of the Electoral College in order to elect the next President and Vice President of the United States.” [Source: Town Hall]
Right. Actually, the Capitol Hill breach occurred when the merits of the electoral college were being debated, which means that the mob would have been interrupting the legitimate questioning (and objection of) some of the electoral results.
Even more disturbingly, the lawsuit also names individuals who were not even physically present in Washington D.C. on January 6. How can that possibly be? Well, in Democrat-style justice, apparently anything is possible.
Aside from formal statements, the suit against Trump had to be blared all over Twitter, in all its melodramatic glory.
“The lawsuit filed today under the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871, is to hold Trump, Giuliani, Proud Boys, & Oath Keepers accountable for the insurrection on Jan 6 at our nation’s Capitol. Please read the lawsuit so you can have all the facts!” [Source: Town Hall]
The Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871? Seriously? Clickbait much? And, is that the best Thompson’s lawyer can do?
Plus, one has to chuckle at the reference to “all the facts.” Here we go again, the Democrats’ infernal obsession with “facts.” Clearly, facts are critically important, which is what makes the Democrats’ rather blatant dismissal of facts whenever it suits them all the more outrageous.
On top of that, Thompson’s attorney also mentioned that the Ku Klux Klan Act “hasn’t been used very much.”
You don’t say, Thompson. Maybe your time would be better spent looking around for some real facts regarding January 6.
How about the “fact” that Nancy Pelosi is now in hot water over Capitol Hill due to the fact that it is her responsibility to secure Capitol Hill? In fact, as soon as chatter began rising regarding Pelosi’s potential incompetence in the entire situation, she abruptly decided to host a “9/11-style” commission panel.
Frankly, comparing Capitol Hill to 9/11 is a tad excessive, but it also brings to mind the chilling thought that the fake news media, ultra-leftist tech billionaires, and many other determined liberals seem absolutely hellbent on labeling conservatives as domestic terrorists.
In fact, The New York Times published an entire article centering on the dangers of the far right, claiming that groups associated with this spectrum are responsible for the most terrorist attacks inside the United States.
Quite the chance in attitude since 9/11.
Regardless, Thompson’s lawsuit will likely flame out like every other attempt to hurt Trump thus far after he left office.
And, happily, while the Democrats fixate on what Trump (didn’t) do in the past, that also means they aren’t exactly paying excessive attention to what he is planning for the future …
